Before you dive in to this week’s post, make sure you read part one of this witchy, magical encounter I had with a medium a few weeks ago.
I felt Jim’s piercing gaze boring a hole into me as I moved my hands back and forth in an overhand shuffle, letting gravity guide the cards from my right palm to my left. The din of the market seemed to fade into nothingness as I closed my eyes and began to turn inward.
I started shuffling faster.
Though I was no longer looking at him, his aura felt like a black hole, one that pulled me into him with each pass of the cards. A stygian passage into the underworld where he must listen to the winding tales of lost souls eager to have their voices heard one last time.
I cleared my throat, wondering how to tell him what I saw: that he will always do this work and that it will always be painful to be the Hanged One, the bridge between two worlds.
But just as I was about to start, he sat up suddenly—as if he had been electrocuted—put his hand on my wrist, and began to speak.
