This week, I asked a few awesome folks to share their favorite tarot card + why it holds meaning for them. It was so cool to read everyone’s answers and explanations that, instead of keeping it exclusive to my paid supporters community, I decided to send this newsletter out to everyone! Enjoy!
Hannah Levy | The Queen of Wands
I’ve always connected to the energy of this card, always gravitated toward the erotic space that the Queen of Wands commands. She has activated her power, holds both light (the sunflower) and dark (the black cat) in her possession.
The Queen of Wands embodies sustainable passion, a wildness that brings her home to herself. I think about this Queen often when I’m feeling creatively stuck, when I want to nurture my fantasies and imagination. Lately, with the fight against white supremacy, systemic state violence, mass shootings, and abortion bans, the Queen has taught me to transmute my rage into a fire that burns more intentionally.
The Queen of Wands brings a creative, provocative perspective that is authentically her own.
Hannah is a writer, creative and tarot enthusiast who is finishing up the first issue of the Rebis, a print magazine focused on tarot. Tori Moore | Death
My favorite card is Death. In my very first tarot deck, Medicine Woman, Death is called Sunset. It reminds me of a line in Les Miserables that goes, “at the end of the day, there’s another day dawning.”
In life, we will go through several death and rebirth cycles, each bringing us closer to our higher selves. The more we welcome these “death” phases, the more hopeful the rebirth will feel.
Plus, the symbolism on the Smith Rider Waite card itself is so interesting, with Death carrying the rose banner, the child rising up to greet him, the city in the distance, the white horse. It’s such a cool card, and I love when it shows up in readings for myself and others!

Rebe Goebel | The Hierophant
While I have never really thought about having a favorite tarot card, the one that immediately came to mind is the Hierophant.
This card appeals to me on a couple of different levels—I’m a magpie with tidbits of information on a lot of topics, so the Hierophant calls me to go deeper in the study of fewer things at a time.
I also love the mentor/mentee aspect of the Hierophant. Some of the richest and most rewarding relationships in my life started as either being mentored by or mentoring someone. The Hierophant reminds me to keep investing in these relationships.

She’s also a Reiki Master and runs The Retreat, a private, supportive community for all who wish to explore and add metaphysical practices to their current lives.
Jason Kei | The Page of Swords
In Marseille decks, the sword is always dangerously close to the Page of Swords’s head, which in one interpretation points to his inexperience with the blade and thus being a danger to himself.
In its more modern association with the element of air and with thought, it’s also an interesting commentary on the self-destructive potential of rumination and worry, as well as the pitfalls of hesitation brought on by overthinking.
But I also sometimes see this Page trying to lose his own head, to become natural in the Zen or Taoist sense, as though his aspiration is to become a honed blade guided by refined instinct, like an expert samurai.
This young disciple has a furious hunger to be freed from his fears and awaken from his delusions.

Waleska Font | The Lovers
When I first started getting into tarot, I had an overwhelming need to feel held. I began carrying The Lovers in my phone case to manifest what I was looking for. In time, I started feeling less alone, but nothing had really changed (I even went through a breakup), so eventually, I retired it.
Recently, a friend told me that they’d describe me as a lover, because they saw me as a love spreader, and they admired me for it. That’s when it hit me. I had connected with this card not because of need or cliche but because, in my search for love, I had to become the love that I was looking for first—the kind that holds you even if they don’t you all that well yet.
Because love is not something to be earned, love is not currency. I am my favorite lover.

Nikki Renfroe | The High Priestess
My favorite tarot card is the one that really spoke to me and connected to me the most when I first started reading tarot seriously: the High Priestess from the Wild Unknown deck.
This card taught me the importance of pausing and being still to gain clarity and to really trust myself; it helped to show me how magical we all are. Now, whenever I do an interview spread to get to know a new deck, the High Priestess almost always comes up. It’s a reminder for me that I’m always connected to my intuition and my spirit guides are with me. It helps me remember that my wisdom comes from within.

Lauren Grimsland | The Sun
I have so many cards that immediately make me smile when they come out, but one that holds special meaning is the Sun. Like seeing 11:11 on the clock, it feels like a reminder that I’m on the right path.
Shortly after we moved into our new house, we had a bunch of things go wrong, and I was feeling burnt out and wondering when we’d catch a break. While standing in the checkout line at Home Sense, I saw a framed print of the Sun, which felt like a sign that everything was going to be okay.
It’s now hanging in our main bathroom, which reminds me that the universe has my back even when things feel uncertain.

Of course, now I want to know: if you practice tarot, what card are you feeling the most connected to lately?
And, in case you were wondering, my favorite card of the moment is the Fool. Essentialism, optimism and hope—all things I’m calling in right now.

Interesting, so very interesting. I honestly don't know. The Queen of Cups keeps showing up for me - and I'm working on it. I actually love love the Sunset card for Death, that's very interesting.
