"I could sense the spiritual wellspring of the island, yes, but it felt like it wasn’t mine to have." I know this exact feeling, the meaning just out of reach, the secret underworld looming, and me feeling like I did not have permission to access, feeling unworthy or just too Other to dip into that particular well. I love how you captured that.

Sometimes, I feel fated to run my fingers over the surface of the spiritual and not be able to fully immerse. I guess the lesson here is to keep the contact and allow it to shift.

I think if we fully immerse too frequently, it takes away some of the magic. Remember that running your fingers over the surface still creates ripples, still changes the flow of the water.

You're writing is beautiful. God is steadfast. Freewill takes us on our adventures, where we find influences - some subtle, some loud - that muddle our inner thoughts and can make life here on earth - lonely, haunting, empty. I find when I seeking Him, it's because I've somehow slipped into the "colder, colder, colder" areas of life, and I need help getting back to Him. He goes no where - we do.

Since I'm from Iowa, I loved your writing about God speaking in the corn field. I happen to be writing about Moses and the burning bush today. It may seem more dramatic, but aren't the burning bush and the corn both speaking with the same voice? Nature is how the divine can connect to us.

That’s an interesting comparison. The corn might be more subtle than a burning bush, but I agree...nature is a portal of divine communication.
